Nicole Jordan

Soprano

“GODDESS OF THE WIND” - Ancient spiritual traditions of the Yoruba are still proudly practiced in Trinidad and Tobago. Orisha, like the people themselves, has been mixed and blended to include many influences from all over the world, but the roots remain unchanged. Through her own text and poetry, and using a variety of music from many lands, Nicole works with Bahamian pianist Dion Cunningham to tell the story of the power and influence of “Oya”, the Orisha Goddess of the Wind.

“NIGHT AT THE OPERA” - Enjoy an evening of classical opera arias and Broadway solos.  The versatile Nicole Jordan will be joined in parts by tenor Gary Seydell, invited choristers from the Bel Canto Singers and the Lyford Cay International School choir, with whom she has worked as Artist in Residence at LCIS.   Accompanied by Bahamian pianist Dion Cunningham.

JAZZ CAFÉ:  Jazz vocalist Jacqui Naylor performs with a quartet including long-time pianist and co-writer, Arthur Khu and a Bahamian rhythm section (bass and drums). With ten albums and an eleventh on the way, Naylor’s audience will be treated to new music, jazz standards, originals and covers. Expect also to hear examples of Naylor and Khu’s signature arranging technique coined “acoustic smashing,” where she sings a jazz tune over a well-known rock groove or vice versa.

JAZZ IN THE GARDENS: In their second concert of the weekend, Jacqui and pianist Arthur Khu will perform songs from their recent Q&A duo recording along with requested favorites from their previous nine albums together. Expect to hear refreshing arrangements of jazz standards, intimate renditions of pop covers and the duo’s own original music for which they are equally well-known.  Weather permitting, this will be a open-air performance in one of the gardens.  Concert seating is picnic-style and on a first come, first served basis with designated, well-marked areas for blankets, low-back chairs and high-back chairs.  Concert goers are encouraged to bring picnics and refreshments (small coolers or insulated bags - no oversized coolers please!) and your own blankets or chairs.  Chairs will also be available at The Trust.  In the event of rain the concert will take place under the gazebo.
