NOTE: It is not possible to save a partial application and come back to it later.  It is therefore recommended that all documents to be uploaded be readily available, and all responses be prepared in advance and then cut and pasted in.

Education Awards (Family Islands and New Providence) -

in conjunction with the Bahamas Music Educators Association

 

Senior Schools: 12-month subscription to Noteflight Learn.  With Noteflight Learn, students can compose music, record live audio scores, and get automatic performance assessment, making it the ideal platform for teaching composition and theory as well as for performance assessment and feedback.  To be awarded to two senior schools, one in New Providence and one in the Family Islands, with a demonstrated commitment to music education.

 

Runner up: 12-month subscription to WeVideo, an easy-to-use video creation tool that empowers students to create, collaborate and express themselves from a distance or in a blended setting.

                                                                                                                                                                                                             

Recipients of the awards will agree to the terms, which will include a video of a collaborative project using the winning software, as well as student and teacher testimonials by the end of March 2021.

Completed application due by 23 October 2020.  To be awarded 30 October 2020.

Competition: Music Composition and Film Scoring in Collaboration with The Bahamas National Trust (BNT)

First Prize: FINALE Music Notation Software - The ultimate music notation program, offering complete control over every aspect of the printed page and spectacular playback from integrated Garritan sounds.  49-key MIDI controller with USD.

 

Audience Choice Award: FINALE Printmusic, or similar.  (The Audience Choice Award will be selected from final round compositions.)

 

Compose a 2 to 3-minute score (classical or jazz style) to accompany a video from The Bahamas National Trust.  The winning score may be used by the BNT media / promotional campaigns.   A shortlist of three finalists will receive feedback from the judges and the opportunity to refine their respective scores for a second round of adjudication to determine the winner, as well as an Audience Choice award recipient.  

 

The application will include an MP3, score or lead sheet of the composition as well as an Artist Statement. Must be 15 - 25 years of age to apply. 

 

The recipients will agree to the terms which include granting NMS the right to post the scored video online as part of the Audience Choice Awards, and the right to The Bahamas National Trust to use the scored video in their respective media campaigns. Additionally, the winner will share an excerpt or composition created on Sibelius, in any style, by the end of the academic year.

 

Completed score and application due by 15 January 2020.

To be awarded on the basis of demonstrated ability and commitment.  Depending on circumstances at the time, the final round will be a public performance, either live or virtual.  

 

Audience Choice Award: 12-month subscription to SmartPractice, a web-based suite of music education tools that support efficient practice, helping musicians to develop and grow, plus violin gear.   (The Audience Choice Award will be selected from final round performances.) 

 

The application will include a Statement of Intent, two Performance Video (one set piece - Vivaldi  violin concerto in A minor RV 356, first movement, as well as  a 2-to-3-minute selection of performer's choosing), and a Letter of Recommendation from someone who can attest to your musical ability (music teacher or professional violinist). Please upload your videos to YouTube (designated “unlisted”) and provide the link in your application. Must be 15 – 20 years of age to apply.

 

The recipients will agree to the terms which include granting NMS the right to post or livestream the performances online as part of the Audience Choice Awards, a testimonial and video within the first year, and, if the winner, performing in the NMS Season Finale, whether live or virtual.

First Prize: Gift of a new Taylor 6-string Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar (with Solid Koa Top, Koa Back and Sides, Sapele Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, and ES-B Electronics - Natural)

 

To be awarded on the basis of demonstrated ability and commitment. Depending on circumstances at the time, the final round will be a public performance, either live or virtual.
